Theory and Observations of the Cycling of Baryons around Galaxies
The galaxy population is shaped through the cycling of baryons between galaxies, the circum-galactic medium (CGM) and the inter-galactic medium. Outflows driven by supernovae and AGN shape the galaxy mass function, whilst the changing nature of accretion onto galaxies is predicted to produce the evolving global star-formation rate. We invite talks focused on the cycling of baryons across different galaxy environments, to discuss the questions: What are the morphological and physical properties of the CGM? What direct connections exist between the CGM and galaxies? What physical processes shape the CGM? How have these processes evolved over time?
