MOONS: The next generation spectrograph for the VLT
The Multi-Object Optical Near-infrared Spectrograph (MOONS) is a powerful facility in construction for ESO's VLT. It will deliver multi-band (RIYJH) spectroscopy of up to 1000 objects simultaneously, enabling unprecedented surveys of the inner Milky Way and the extragalactic Universe. Alongside construction there is now significant activity in developing plans for the core surveys, so it is timely to update the community on this exciting UK-led project. We will give an overview of the instrument and work underway toward the surveys, and provide an opportunity for contributed talks on future MOONS science.
