Mapping the influence of Magnetosphere-Ionosphere interactions on the surface magnetic field and grounded infrastructure
The interaction between the magnetosphere and ionosphere during storm-time conditions is a key driver for creating rapidly changing magnetic fields. The detailed circumstances which generate and sustain strong variations of the magnetic field at mid- to high latitudes are of great interest for accurately forecasting the ground effects of space weather, particularly the impact on technology systems. This session seeks contributions from researchers to understand Magnetosphere-Ionosphere interactions and how this might influence our ability to understand and predict the magnetic field variations on the ground. We also welcome research into the effects of severe space weather events on surface technology.
