Role of shocks in the solar atmosphere and solar-terrestrial environment
Shocks are a fundamental physical feature which can be observed throughout the solar atmosphere and solar-terrestrial environment across a wide range of spatial and temporal scales. However, the different observational capabilities for studying shocks in the solar atmosphere and the solar-terrestrial environment has complicated interactions between these communities. Combining remote-sensing and in-situ studies of shocks will enable a deeper understanding of how shocks evolve, which is fundamental to understanding energy transport and release in these different regimes. This session brings together leading experts to discuss the current state-of-the-art from observational, numerical, and theoretical standpoints.
